Hello! I’m Jill
EarthGroove began after I ran the Boston Marathon in 2008. I realized there was minimal comfortable clothing on the market that fit well, was high quality and had bold, meaningful designs for athletes or on the go. For the Boston marathon, I designed my own tank top, had a friend hand paint it with a sun and a saying and had all my friends, family, and colleagues put their fingerprints on it with ink because I wanted something that meant something to take along with me during the race.
I remember looking around at the start of the Boston Marathon; I saw a lot of black everywhere and realized it would be challenging as a spectator to pick out the runner they came to the race to cheer on. I designed my own tank top and had my friend hand paint it with a sun and a saying and had all my friends, family and colleagues put their fingerprints on with ink because I wanted something that meant something to coke along with me during the race.
Fast forward to chatting with my mom undergoing cancer treatment at my cabin at Clear Lake, Manitoba. We talked about what is possible. I wanted to combine my passions in life, running, athletic wear, community involvement, nature, races, travel, and my sewing background with my mom as a kid and my mom’s art. My mom and I started drawing together designs and logos on paper on the floor at our cabin with her chemo stint bandaged around her arm. It’s a moment I will treasure forever and will never forget. My life was going to change forever. One… I lost my mom to cancer at 70 years old, and two, I created the business name Earthgroove Activewear and registered it and never looked back. My life took on a whole new meaning and a purpose. I could live my passions, honour my mom and her artwork every day on fabric, and create a dynamic team that has a purpose every day to make high quality beautiful athletic wear and designs and give back to mental health. As a team, we empower ourselves and others and support each other in life’s adventures while doing something we love together.
